William Kentridge: More Sweetly Play the Dance

Encounter with the assistant curator at the exhibition William Kentridge: More Sweetly Play the Dance (Hebrew)

Encounter with the assistant curator, Galit Landau Epstein

A stunning cortege of figures, silhouettes and sculptures comprises William Kentridge’s (b. 1955, Johannesburg) video installation, moving in a cyclical neverending procession along eight screens, accompanied by a brass band. Among the marching, dancing, playing figures is South African dancer Dada Masilo, who collaborates with Kentridge in his work. Inspired by medieval danse macabre and African funeral processions, More Sweetly Play the Dance is a powerfully beautiful and stirring work, raising a multitude of references.
