Virtual Encounter via Zoom / Ilya & Emilia Kabakov: Tommorow We Fly
Due to the current national security situation, the Museum will be closed to the public, and all activities in physical spaces are postponed until further notice.
We are all going through extremely trying times. In a bid to help, however modestly, we continue to offer, for the second week running, an hour of respite, by providing captivating lectures and encounters every day, free of charge, via Zoom.

Ilya & Emilia Kabakov: Tomorrow We Fly / Lecturer: Shahar Molcho, curator of the exhibition
Ilya & Emilia Kabakov worked together as an artist couple from their home on Long Island, New York, from 1989 until Ilya’s death in May 2023, at the age of 89. They are best known for their total and ambitious installations—autonomous “sets” installed within museum exhibition spaces, comprising architectural elements and paintings. Visual and auditory stimuli surround the visitors in these installations and provide direct experience of another reality, drawn to a large extent from daily life in the post-Stalinist Soviet Union.
At the meeting we will explore the exhibition Tomorrow We Fly, which recently opened at the Museum. The exhibition examines the political, cultural, and generational contexts of art and its ability to contribute to change, especially in times of crisis. In the current climate around the world, and in Israel in particular, it engages with the power of art to transcend the Museum’s boundaries through imagination.
