A special preview screening of the new film by award-winning director Steven Soderbergh.
A mainstay of the London art scene since his breakthrough during the creative explosion of the 1960s, Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) has now retreated into self-imposed seclusion. His two estranged children enlist Lori (Michaela Coel), a young painter and sometime forger, to pose as a prospective assistant in order to gain access to a fabled series of unfinished canvases that Julian has buried deep in his studio—a scheme intended to secure their inheritance.
Among other themes, the film explores the art world, creativity, ownership and the value of art, while also engaging with universal questions of legacy, our place in the world, and the meaning of life.
A wonderfully layered comedy-drama that has received critical acclaim, from one of the industry’s most celebrated directors, Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven), starring Academy Award nominee Sir Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings) and Emmy Award winner Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You).
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and went on to win Best Feature Film and Best Screenwriting at the Mediterrane Film Festival in Malta, as well as the Stolman Audience Award for Best Film at the Sonoma International Film Festival.
