All His Sons: The Brueghel Dynasty

Jan Brueghel the Younger and Hendrick van Balen, An Allegory of the Four Elements, ca. 1630

Joint exhibition with Villa Olmo, Como, Italy

Four generations of the Brueghel family lived and worked in Flanders from the mid-16th to the early 18th century. The founder of the dynasty was Pieter Bruegel the Elder, but the exhibition—about 100 paintings, drawings and engravings—focuses mostly on his sons, grandsons, great-grandsons and sons-in-law, all painters, and on their wonderful depictions of snow-covered villages, farmers in the forest, flowers, butterflies and tiny insects.
