Ben Hagari: Potter’s Will

From Potter’s Will, 2015

The Chami Fruchter Prize for an Emerging Israeli Video Artist, 2015

Ben Hagari’s tragi-comic films and video installations manifest absurd environments that raise questions of identity and territory. Reborn in all these films, the artist’s figure is locked within an automated mechanism and deals with cultural, modern or ancient circumstances often caused by technological failure, by radicalization or reversal of an existing mechanism. In his new video installation, Potter’s Will, Hagari uses the potter’s wheel to examine ancient myths about the creation of a vase, a man, an artist and art.

The exhibition is held concurrently at the Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA
