Ofer Rotem

Leipzig, 2008

The Haim Shiff Prize for Figurative-Realist Art, 2015

Ofer Rotem’s graphite-on-paper drawings exist in two parallel worlds. The general appearance seems purely realistic; on closer inspection, however, his viewers are about to be surprised: some of the drawings reveal a whole underground world of dwarves, demons and strange monsters hiding among the bushes and grass. Concurrently, Rotem explores scribbles, lines and stains, and feverishly examines reflections in glass (in shop windows and train stations).
