Yael Burstein: Pure Hard White World

Installation view (simulation), 2019

Sculptures are scattered throughout a space painted to a unified color that flattens its dimensions to an optical illusion of a painting surface. Three major processes take place here: a slashing of spaces within the sculptural monumentality; an imagined hovering wholeness that suggests the existence of the sculptures as parts of one whole; and the rise of the theatrical as an entity whose heart bears a rupture or a split.
