Virtual Encounter via Zoom / A Tale Beginning in Three Rooms (in Hebrew)
Due to the current national security situation, the Museum will be closed to the public. Most activities in physical spaces are postponed until further notice, except for a few events (free of charge, but advance registration is required).
We are all going through extremely trying times. In a bid to help, however modestly, we continue to offer, for the sixth week running, an hour of respite, by providing captivating lectures and encounters every day, free of charge, via Zoom.
This week we will recall past exhibitions at the Museum, get to know some of the beloved works in its collection, and visit important collections around the world. We invite you, the culture-loving public, to enjoy an hour of curiosity.

A Tale Beginning in Three Rooms / Lecturer: Arnon Goldfinger, film director
In 1933, Dr. Karl Schwarz, who had founded the Jewish Museum in Berlin, was invited by then-Mayor of Tel Aviv, Meir Dizengoff, to manage the first art museum in Palestine—the Tel Aviv Museum. Accordingly, he left the cultural world of Berlin and arrived in Tel Aviv, only to discover, to his surprise, that the museum in question was housed in three small rooms of the mayor’s private residence. The film by acclaimed director Arnon Goldfinger (The Apartment, 2011) is a compilation of archival materials and artworks that unfolds the story of the founding of the Tel Aviv Museum and reveals the disconcerting link between its growth and the tragedy that befell European Jewry in the 1930s and 1940s. In this fascinating talk, Goldfinger will recount the “behind-the-scenes” of the film’s making.
